Hutton-Washbrook have had the greatest opening partnership in test Cricket history, with a total of 359 runs. Although Hutton was eventually dismissed for 158, Washbrook remained at the crease until he was caught for 195. South Africa ended up with 315 and 270/2 in a draw match.

McKenzie und Smith

South Africa's openers Neil McKenzie (South Africa) and Graeme Smith (South Africa) hold the record for highest opening partnership in Test cricket. They scored 415 runs in their first innings against Bangladesh. Smith scored 232 runs from 277 balls, scoring 33 fours and sixes. McKenzie added 170 runs. South Africa won this match by 205 runs.

Lawry and Simpson

Lawry and Simpson scored a double hundred in the same innings against the West Indies on May 6, 1966. This was the longest opening partnership in Test history. In the process, they broke the previous record set by Bill Brown and Jack Fingleton in January 1936, which was 358 for the opening wicket. They were also the first pair to score double centuries.

Atkinson, Washbrook

Hayden Watson and Watson share more than 2,500 Test runs and an average of 50. They also share the record for the highest wicket-sharing partnership in Test cricket. They were the first to drop from Australia's most winning side. With 16 partnerships totalling over 100 runs, the pair averaged 67 runs per trip to the middle.


Smith and Gibbs

Herschelle Gabbs and Graeme Smith are the most successful opening team in test cricket history. The pair scored a magnificent 301 for South Africa's first Test victory against England in juillet 2003. Gibbs was out for 179 but Smith scored 277 runs to help South Africa win the Test by nine runs. England were restricted to a 321 run target in response. They made 110 in the second innings, and the game ended in a draw.

Rahul Dravid

Virat Kohli and Rahul Dhawan shared the highest opening partnership for test cricket, scoring unbeaten 222 runs. Both have been the only players to achieve a hundred and twenty five fifty plus partnerships in a Test series. Dravid was also the only player to catch more than ten balls in a Test series. This record was achieved against Australia in the 2004-05 Test series.

Although they reside on opposite sides, have different jobs and share a mutual love of cricket, they both live in the same area.
