The Sophia Gardens cricket ground is the home ground of Glamorgan County Cricket Club. The ground was opened in 1967 and has hosted international matches since. The Cardiff Athletic Club laid and paid PS25,000 for a new pavilion. Some of the most significant matches in Glamorgan's past include the County Championship against Worcestershire, 1969, and the John Player League 1978.
