There is a scoring system for field hockey. The ball must cross the goal line between two goal posts to score a goal. Special situations may also call for set plays. It is possible to substitute for players. The goalkeeper and field players may change roles at any time. Substitutions are made in a game if the team needs to change players can be rested.
When the ball crosses between the goal posts, it is deemed a goal.
Field hockey goals are scored when a hockey ball crosses the goal line. These goal posts are located at each end of the field. The goal line is approximately seven and twelve feet high. The attacking team must aim within the 16-yard area. Most coaches break it into three zones.
For specific situations, set plays can be used
Set plays are plays that can be used for specific situations in field hockey. You can think of penalty corners as well as free hits. Different teams will have various variations of these plays to try and beat the opposing team's defence. Some coaches will choose to use certain plays to get the ball between two players or to let their players attack the goal of an opposing team. These plays are unique to each team and are only used in specific situations.
Substitutions allowed
Field hockey is a simple game that uses a numerical advantage as a scoring system. A team with a higher number of players will have the numerical advantage if they are able to pass the ball around the opposing team and score. The game is played in two halves. Each half has five-minute rests. The game is deemed to be a draw if the scores remain the same after 70 minutes. Each team is made up of 11 players. Each player uses one end of the stick to hit a ball. A goal is achieved when the ball hits an opponent's goal within a 16 yard area.
Green card
A green warning is given in field hockey when a player has committed a minor offence. The green card allows players to play for up to two minutes without having to be accompanied by one more player. These cards can be given to a specific player or to the entire team. The captain may also receive a green card as a warning for the entire team.
Yellow card
Each country has its own scoring system. A player can be issued a yellow card in some areas for an incident on the field. In other places, a player could be disqualified from playing if they accumulate too many yellow cards. Although the exact number of yellow cards that are required to be disqualified in a tournament is not known, a maximum of five may lead to disqualification.
Long corner mark
There are two types of corners in field hockey: short and long. A short corner will be given if a defender intentionally hits or fouls a player in the shooting circle. All players must leave the shooting circle after the ball is returned to play in both cases.
Free hit
If a player of the opposing team fouls another team, a free hit is given. A player must move a minimum of five meters to hit the ball. Once possession of the ball is established, the attacking player can then attempt to strike the ball into the goal. The goalkeeper must use his stick to stop it from crossing the goalline.
Goalkeeper privileges
A goalkeeper privilege is awarded to a player that saves a goal. This is a great way of helping the team win. These players can't wear different colours than other players. While defending a penalty corner, they can wear a mask to their face.
