Derbyshire cricketers

Many Derbyshire cricketers have been successful in international cricket. Among the all-rounders who represented the county are Sam Cadman and Arthur Morton. These men were key to Derbyshire's 1936 victory in the national championship. Although they were not England test cricketers, these men were great contributors.

Both played for Derbyshire during their exile. Evershed was knighted in recognition of his public service. He captained the team for many decades. Wright, aside from his outstanding batsmanship, was also an exceptional fielder, especially in the traditional square-point position. Wright was still playing good cricket at 90, and was a regular at the County Ground.

Derbyshire players who played for England during Test matches

Many Derbyshire cricketers have represented their nation in Test matches. John Morris was one such player, and his performances as a batsman have been regarded as some of the best in English history. Morris was able both to play with power, delicacy, as well as being adept against fast-bowling. He was a crucial member of the Derbyshire cricket team and was selected to play in England's tour to India in 1990. Although he was not a natural Test batsman, he was able to impress the selectors by scoring runs fast. Morris finished with 39 centuries and ninety-one fifties. His average in Test cricket was 32.

SJ Dawson is another Derbyshire player who will play for England. Although he was a regular participant in the Twenty20 Indian Premier League, Dawson did not make the national team. Dawson moved from Derbyshire to Sussex. He feels that his move to Sussex helped him become more well-known in the national squad.
